Welcome to my Homepage.
My name is Yasshira Alvarez and I am a teacher at Hibiscus Elementary. I teach Fourth Grade. Fourth Grade is a very exciting grade, lots of things go on during the year. We Keep our students very busy!
This is my fourth year as a teacher and still loving it. My teaching roots started in Tallahassee, Fl. where I went to school (Florida State University 'Home of the Seminoles'). Right after graduation, I secured a teaching position at Cheney Elementary in Orlando, Fl. where I taught second grade for two years. In 1997, I moved to Miami 'my new home' and had the opportunity to be part of the greatest school in Dade County 'Hibiscus Elementary'.
I plan on teaching the following topics: Human Growth and Development, Test Taking Skills for the FCAT, SAT, and Florida Writes, and I am developing a thematic unit on the novel Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner.
My students are very busy working in their writing portfolios. They love to read and it shows. This year, I have taken novels and used them across our curriculum. My students seem to enjoy it a whole lot. Learning is fun!
I am very interested in meeting with other teachers who are interested in the same topics.

It is very hot in Miami, Florida. The temperature often reaches 98°. It is like living in a tropical island all year round. Miami is known for its great beaches, Art Deco, its diversity, and more.
