Missy Kaler's Homepage

About Me

Welcome to my Homepage. My name is Melissa Kaler. I am a 3rd Grade Teacher at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, Florida. I am deaf myself - in fact, I graduated from the Florida School for the Deaf.

About My Classroom

I have 9 students and all of them are deaf. My students call me Ms. Missy. My biggest focus with my students is language - especially the writing and reading part.

I am very interested in meeting other teachers that are teachers of the deaf. If you have any questions regarding deafness as well as about ideas to help deaf children with writing and reading, please feel free to contact me at kalerm@mail.fsdb.k12.fl.us. I would love to get new ideas from you as well.

About Where I Live

St. Augustine is a small quaint town in the north part of Florida. If you are unfamiliar, it is between Jacksonville and Daytona. The advantage of St. Augustine is that it is close to the beaches and it is the heart of historical relics such as the oldest school in the United States, the fort, Henry Flagler's hotel which is currently a college, and the Lighter's Museum. There are also many small stores and pubs. The locals are very friendly and to my amazement, many are very familiar with sign language. And not to forget to mention, the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind is a frequesnt tourist spot. The campus is vastly big with about 70 acres.
