Shepard's First HomepageWelcome to my first attempt at a Homepage. My name is Michelle Shepard and I am a teacher at Wauchula Elementary School in Hardee County, Florida. I teach third grade. This Homepage is a project I am creating during a training session at the Miami Museum of Science.
Hardee County is a rural community near the center of the state of Florida. We are located approximately 70 miles southeast of Tampa. Agriculture and phosphate are our two major industries.
Hardee County has 1 high school, 1 junior high, and 4 elementary schools. We are unique in that we are one of the only two school districts in the state that divides elementary schools into campuses for Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5.
Wauchula Elementary is a grade 3-5 school with an enrollment of approximately 700 students. We are actively involved in the Accelerated Reader program school-wide and would love to hear from other schools who use this program.
An intergrated curriculum is my focus for the year. I plan on teaching the following novels this year : MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS, FRANKENSTEIN MOVED IN ON THE FOURTH FLOOR, NUMBER THE STARS, AND MRS. PIGGLE WIGGLE. I am very interested in speaking with other teachers who are interested in these novels.
