Monica Avalos's HomepageWelcome to my Homepage.
My name is Monica Avalos and I am a teacher at Miami-Palmetto Senior
High School. I teach Biology and Honors Biology (9th-10th grades) and I
coach Badminton (Yep..that's right, Badminton!!).
I plan on teaching the following topics: Evolution, Classification System, Human Biology, Comparative Anatomy and Ecology. I am very interested in meeting with other teachers who are interested in these topics.
I am part of the technology team at the school and our goal is to connect every classroom to each other and to the Internet. Since our school is quite old this is a long and expensive task. We have spent a huge amount of money on hardware, software and training. Some teachers have started out quite slowly with one computer in the classroom used primarily to prepare lessons and materials. We would like to get to the position where most teachers are using multimedia and the Internet on a weekly basis. In addition, the administration would like to communicate with the staff using E-mail only.
Parents and students are also going to be able to benefit since we will be using a gradebook that they can access through the phone lines. When students are transferred between teachers (via schedule changes) the sending instructor can send all the info on the student to the new teacher with a touch of a button. Think of all the paper that can be saved when all classrooms are connected to each other and to the administrative offices.
If you have any comments, questions or suggestions I would love to hear from you. You may reach me at Moniavalos @AOL.com
It is very hot in Miami, Florida. The temperature often reaches 98°. This sounds worse than it is. Actually, the weather is quite mild most of the time with temperatures hanging around 75°(day) during the winter months.
