Work Information

This is my third year teaching 4th grade at Holmes Elementary. This is a challenging grade to teach because our students work hard to achieve their very best on the Florida Writing Assessment.

I believe that a teacher should provide a child-centered environment that develops critical thinking skills and promotes active learning experiences which enhance academic performance, positive self-concepts, and cooperative learning. I believe all children can succeed and should be provided learning opportunities to help them reach their full potential. I believe ALL children are special and should know that they are loved for who they are!

One special motto which our principal, Steve Gallon III, created and all our staff at Holmes Elementary has come to live by is

"Educating with love and without compromise."

Biographical Information

Holmes Elementary is an inner-city school located just 10 minutes from Miami Beach (Atlantic Ocean). We enjoy tropical weather year round.

Since our 4th grade Social Studies curriculum focuses on the State of Florida, we are fortunate to be surrounded by many interesting sights: the Florida Everglades, the Seminole Indian reservation, and one of the largest counties in Florida, Miami-Dade County.

Personal Interests

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and have enjoyed watching our multicultural community grow during the past years. I graduated from Notre Dame Academy (High School), Miami, Florida, in 1967, attended Miami Dade Community College and got married in 1971. My husband and I have been married for 27 years and have 11 (yes, 11) beautiful children. We are also now the proud grandparents of our first granddaughter! I returned to college in 1994 and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading Education from Florida International University. Needless to say, my interests are my children inside and outside the classroom. I keep very busy as a wife, mother and teacher!
