Materials

coins-various denominations- real or paper sorting trays or yarn paper, markers, and paper coins-optional for graphing

What to do

1.place coins on table and ask students about them, listen to their comments, ask open ended questions 2.discuss atributes: color, shape, sizes, etc 3.use the names of the coins and talk about each one- 4. choose one to talk about sort all in trays, inside yarn circle, 5.focus on one coin- I chose dimes 6.play with them, count them, line them up, compare them to other coins,

Additional Information

Follow up on another day with a review of coins, sorting, use real coins or paper ones. Graph on paper, or chart using coins or paper ones or drawing them.
