MA.A.2.1.1
Materials
red circle (stop light) green circle (green light) 10 chairs multiplication cards
What to do
Without any words, the instructor will begin the class modeling a percussion exercise. Twelve students will be chosen and 10 chairs will be set up in a circle. The 12 students will stand in front of the chairs. The "green light" will signal the audience to begin the percussion exercise and the 12 students to begin walking around the chairs. The "stop light" will signal the percussion to stop. 10 students will sit in a chair leaving 2 standing. The 2 remaining will look at the instructor for a multiplication fact. The first student to answer correctly will remain in the game, the other student chooses another player from the audience to play and replace that person as part of the percussion.
Additional Information
Percussion is practiced all together in the beginning and it keeps the non-playing students engaged in a motor skill while the game is in progress. This is also aligned with the music standards in the Sunshine State Standards.
