Large Graph Chart - Teacher Graph paper - students Markers or crayons

What to do

Choose 4 or 5 favorite foods such as hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, chicken nuggets, tacos. Have students vote for their favorite choice by raising hands. Create tally mark chart. Then transfer information onto graph paper as bar graph. Later leave tally information up and have students create their own bar graphs at their desks. Discuss scale, axes, proper labeling. Students love this because it represents something that's important to them.

Additional Information

Can be adapted to any variety of objects and topics. Students really like it because the data comes from them.
