Prerequisite concepts: ï biomes ï mutation ï natural selection. ï Requires approximately two activity periods and/or outside class time. Activity: 1. Allow students to select a biome from list teacher has chosen (arctic, tropical, etc.). 2. Tell students to imagine that 10 million years have passed. 3. Have students design a creature that has adapted special features for the biome chosen. ï Students should identify predator/prey relationships, special behavioral or functional adaptations, etc. during the process of designing their creature. ï Students use materials supplied by teacher to draw and detail their creature when it is designed. ï Students then either create a model, a "biorama," or a "creature feature" movie which describes their creature in detail.
