Edible Cells

Sunshine State Standard

SC.F.1.3.1

Materials

paper plates, a base material such as peanut butter or icing, different kinds of cereal pieces, string licorice, m & m's, and any other material that demonstrates a part of a plant or animal cell.

What to do

1. Begin by having students study the parts of plant and animal cells. This could include the viewing of onion skin cells and cheek cells under microscope. 2. Use science resource material to show parts of both plant and animal cells. Have students draw and color pictures of plant and animal cells. 3. Send home notes to parents to donate supplies for this activity. 4. The goal of this activity is for students to create a plant or animal cell and be able to name the parts of the cell without notes or assistance. 5. When their creation is finished they must name all the parts of their plant or animal cell before eating it!
