Materials

White Drawing Paper Crayons Ruler

What to do

1. Take drawing paper and fold in half lengthwise. 2. Along the folded edge, where the paper is creased, have the students write their name in cursive. Press hard with crayon and bring all the letters down to the crease in the center. 3. Fold the paper in half so that the name is folded inside. Use a ruler to rub over the folded paper (the back of a textbook will work also. Students rub the paper so that an outline of their name will appear on the other half of the paper when it is opened. 4. Retrace their name on teh other side of the paper with the black crayon. 5. Color in the mask finding eyes, nose, and mouth. 6. Have students show and discuss lines of symmetry in mask. Optional: * Create bulletin board * Have students guess the names of other students' masks. * Cut mask out an paste on black construction paper Activity can be used as an art activity, whole group or center activity to reinforce the concept of symmetry.
