Materials
2 yardsticks, 2 balls of string, paper, pencil
What to do
1. Brainstorm a list of shapes.i.e. rectangle, square, hexagon, etc. 2. Take the class outside to a field or pavement area. 3. Divide the class in half and select several students from each half to be the measurers. 4. Have both groups form one of the shapes, using the students as the "perimeter." 5. Have the students unwind the balls of string from the beginning to the end of shape along the perimeter. 6. Cut the string off. 7. Have the students measure the length of string in feet, inches, yards. 8. Continue on to another shape.

The students and you will enjoy the refreshing outdoors while they learn.
