Materials

a copy of geometric shapes and angles
a form designed by teacher that lists the members and tour area.

What to do

Assign each group of students a different area around the school (i.e., gym, cafteria, patio,) to locate shapes. Each group will have a leader who will keep track of the time, two recorders and a reporter.

Groups are to locate, sketch, and denote area where each of their geometric shapes were found. They report their findings to the class the following class period.

The groups are given 30 minutes each for their field trip tour around the school.

Additional Information

You may want to let the students know that you will impose a two point penalty for each minute they are late returning to class. This works very well. All groups make it back on time. They also enjoy being out of class for time.
