I Can Be An Oceanographer

Sunshine State Standard

SC.H.3.1.1

Materials

2 liter soda bottles, colored duct tape, spray paint, tag board, empty pint milk cartons, tubing, pacifiers, saran wrap, crayons, yarn, paper grocery bags

What to do

As a culminating activity for an ocean unit-the students will design and create scuba gear using the materials provided: goggles-tag board cut out and blue saran wrap, flippers-tag board cut out and yarn to tie onto feet, oxygen tank-painted soda bottles, tubing and pacifiers for a mouth piece, life vests-paper bags colored with ocean scenes; use the duct tape to hold the oxygen tank to the vest.

Additional Information

Let the students be creative-give them the supplies and see what they come up with. Have them create the list of needed items in cooperative groups first, then draw each item, then make with the materials. Have a real scuba diver visit your class.
