Chalk, Chalkboard
What to do
Have the students get into 2-3 teams. Team sizes can be up to 10 or more students. Have the students face the chalkboard. The first student holds the chalk for each team. The teacher states: On your mark, get set go, skip count by some number (example 2). The first student writes the first number of the sequence (2) then passes the chalk to the player behind them. This continues on until the players end the sequence. If a student makes a mistake the next student in line can erase the mistake, correct the mistake, and then take his turn. The sequence needs to be written 2 times. example of sequences: 1. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20. 2.. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20. error: 2, 5, (student erases the 5 and adds the 4 as well as the 6. The first team to write the sequence two times correctly and quietly is the winner. From there, I try to show the pattern of 1x2= 2, 2x2=4 and so on. The students love when we have an extra five minutes to play.
Additional Information
I don't allow the children to shout out the numbers.
