Welcome to
my HomePage. My name is Vanie O. Benedetto and I am the Instructional
Technology Specialist at Land O' Lakes High School located in the town
of Land O' Lakes in central Pasco County (just north of Tampa).
My duties include providing technology inservice for our students and staff, maintaining the technology equipment and inventory, as well as keeping the school network running smoothly.
I was the first classroom teacher in the school to request a computer as an instructional tool. (The only other computers in the school at that time were for programming, but I was an English teacher.) I began with one Radio Shack TRS80 with one 5.25 inch floppy drive and no hard drive.
When I was able to replace that computer with two Apple IIe's, there was no turning back. I was able to accumulate 20 Apple's before helping to write a grant to provide a Apple SE/30 file server, 25 Apple Macintosh SE's, two Apple Imagewriter printers, an Apple LaserWriter II, and an Apple OneScanner for a writing lab. My classroom had an adjoining door to the lab in order for me to serve as a resource to other teachers as they used the lab.
Eventually, with site based management, the faculty elected to use me as a full time resource by relieving me of teaching duties. This will be my fifth year as technology specialist.
Land O' Lakes High School has approximately 1700 students in grades 9-12. We offer a full curriculum of vocational, college prep, exceptional student education (ESE), and general courses.
The school has a complete localtalk LAN (at least one Apple Macintosh computer in each classroom); three networked Apple Macintosh labs, and four DOS/Windows labs.
Land O' Lakes is known for its hundreds of lakes. Opportunities abound for recreational water activities!
Even the District School Board office (on the same 100 acre campus as
the school in Land O' Lakes) is reflected in a lake.
